Health and Safety Supervisor (Underground Mining) 3 Month Contract
Your Next Challenge
Reporting to the Capital Projects Manager, you will be part of the Health & Safety Department. You will be responsible for supervising members of the Health and Safety team, to ensure the implementation and ongoing maintenance of safety programs, safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting our gold mining client’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
What you will do in this role:
• Be a key contact point and resource for health and safety related issues;
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships to provide technical expertise and guidance with internal stakeholders to ensure business needs are well understood and satisfied from the health and safety perspective;
• Implement Health and Safety management systems and practices, considering quality, cost, safety, production and overall business needs;
• Support the Health and Safety management system software solution by working with others to implement, provide training and manage the administration of the system(s);
• Support and engage in programs that develop organizational capabilities to identify, monitor and control hazards in the workplace;
• Responsible for the evaluation of training programs and trainers to ensure consistent quality and delivery;
• Responsible for coordinating and prioritizing training needs and requests;
• Participate in the preparation of the Health and Safety team and site health and safety performance monitoring and reporting requirements;
• Identify and analyze workplace hazards that can cause sickness, impaired health, or significant discomfort in workers; gather information and submit reports, interface with relevant departments.
What You Need To Succeed
• Degree or Diploma in a Health and Safety related discipline;
• 10 years’ of experience in a health and safety role within the mining sector, underground mining experience will be a great asset;
• Thorough knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and construction & mining regulations;
• Ontario Mining Supervisor Common Core training;
• Experience with HSE management system software (Intelex, E-compliance, ICAM investigation methodology);
• Experience with the implementation and monitoring of industrial hygiene programs;
• Experience with Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM), the International Cyanide management Code and ISO 45001 are considered assets.
Your Work Schedule
• Schedule: 4-3 (10 hours per day) at our client’s remote mine site in Northern Ontario
